Registration open: In Harkness’ London: A Symposium on the Life and Work of Margaret Harkness, 22 November, Birkbeck

Saturday, 22 November 2014
Birkbeck School of Arts, Keynes Library, 43-46 Gordon Square

This one-day symposium is the first event to bring together research on the writer and social activist Margaret Harkness, whose work includes a body of fiction published under the pseudonym ‘John Law’. The broad scope of Harkness’ social and political interests and her commitment tothe fidelity of her representations ensure that critical evaluations of her work will make a valuable contribution to wider scholarship on late-Victorian London and the lives, ideas and priorities of marginalised groups during the period.

Speakers include: Professor David Glover, Dr Ruth Livesey, Dr Nadia Valman, Dr Lynne Hapgood, Dr Terry Elkiss, Dr Tabitha Sparks, Andrew Whitehead, Dr Victoria Le Fevre, Eliza Cubitt
