Don’t forget, the deadline to register for the BAVS 2016 PGR/ECR workshops is in just under a week, on 22 July 2016.
Postgraduate and early-career researchers are invited to participate in the morning programme before the start of the main conference, co-organised by Cardiff’s Dany van Dam and this year’s BAVS Postgraduate representatives (Emma Butcher and Abby Boucher). You can participate regardless of whether you are a speaking delegate or a non-speaking delegate at the conference. The workshop schedule and additional details can be found here, as well as under the ‘Programme’ tab.
Those wishing to participate in the workshops must register in advance. Places are limited, so please do so as soon as possible. Instructions for registration can be found below.
This year’s programme consists of several workshops:
- An illustration workshop on Victorian illustrations, organised in the Special Collections and Archives (SCOLAR) of Cardiff University by SCOLAR archivist Alison Harvey and Professor Julia Thomas (Cardiff)
- A public speaking workshop by Dr Eric Hetzler (Huddersfield), Senior Lecturer and professional actor and director, titled: ‘Presenting Your Research: It Really is a Performance’
- A workshop on creative writing in academia, by Professor Damian Walford Davies (Cardiff), author of multiple collections of poetry, and Dr Lucy Andrew, who combines being an early-career researcher with writing a novel
All workshops include practical elements for participants to become involved. If the number of participants exceeds our expectations, a fourth workshop will be added to avoid having overly large groups. The illustration workshop is limited to sixteen participants per session. The workshops will each be given twice, once during the first block of time (9:30-10:45) and once during the second (11:15-12:30). More detailed descriptions of the workshops can be found below.
To register for the PGR/ECR morning programme, please send an e-mail to email@example.com with ‘PGR/ECR workshop registration’ in the title by Friday, 22 July. In this e-mail, please indicate your first and second choice of workshop so that we can ensure that you are able to participate in at least one of these in case a workshop needs to be added. There is no additional registration cost for the morning programme as it is generously supported by BAVS and by Cardiff University, but do ensure that you have registered for the conference itself (either the full conference or part of it).
